Fount this problem today and must share it with you.

01:09:18 root@eeny:~# zpool import tm
cannot import 'whatever': no such pool available

Oops, got scared a bit :)
You should not because what follows may help you.
That is assuming the disk with that pool is attached, available and not damaged :D

ESXi: how to resize the OS partition

Actually you cannot resize the OS partition on an existing ESXi installation but you can backup the configuration, reinstall with the right options and restore back the configuration.
You could probably also migrate during the installation process but I haven't tested that yet.

So, without much typing here we go.

Linux: how to check if the disk is SSD or not

With SSD arriving more and more in our lives it is natural to find it on linux servers too.
Not working with SSD in this area much, haven't found much interest of finding ssd related things in Linux so far.

So, nowadays one can wonder wondering: how would I know if my disks in Linux are SSD or not?
A valid response would be: close the system, open it up and see what disk you have there :)))

But what if this is a linux server far far away? You need to be able to find out these things from OS level.

Python: fake smtp server

This is simple and neat.
Haven't found any use for it yet but worth to have it around :)

Run our fake SMTP server:

sonic:~# python -m smtpd -n -c DebuggingServer 192.168.11.22:25

Test our fake SMTP server:

venus:~# telnet 192.168.11.22 25
Trying 192.168.11.22...

Debian DRBD: How to resize drbd and OCFS2 online

So, we need to increase the following OCFS2 partition which sits on a drbd volume (which sits on lvm2 volume).
The grow steps have to be taken in the right order: lvm2, drbd and ocfs2.

Docker: how to increase php memory "the docker way"

I got this error today while trying to upgrade some php application:

Fatal error encountered: /var/www/html/libs/Zend/Db/Statement/Pdo.php(292): Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20480 bytes)

UPS :) Quick! Go check your memory limits... pull your hair out, run around the house senseless! WE ARE DOOMED!
Well, the fix is easy. Read on (or watch the video).

Docker: Install on Debian

This is based on official documentation but is simplified just for what I needed and hopefully is useful for you also.

1. Check debian version (in this case it is 10.8 - buster)

# cat /etc/debian_version 
# lsb_release -cs

2. Remove any existing docker installation (older versions that came with the OS, etc.)

NOTE: if nothing is removed, no problems.

Thermaltake Pure 20 fan - HUGE and quiet!

In order to cool down better my two mac mini servers, I have acquired two HUGE 200mm fans from Thermaltake. I did not necessary need the led lights but it turned out in server rack they look amazing.
